Years 5 and 6

Welcome to Upper Key Stage 2!

The UKS2 class teachers are:

· Mrs Adams – Class 9/Barn Owls (Y5)

· Mrs Busby/Mrs Williams – Class 10/Buzzards (Y5/6)

· Mr Knight – Class 11/Ospreys (Y6)

This academic year promises to be filled with engaging and hands-on learning experiences that will encourage curiosity and creativity. From exploring Space to stepping back in time to the Vikings, students will dive into a variety of captivating topics designed to make learning both interesting and meaningful.

Topics for the year include:

· Bristol and the Slave Trade

· Space

· Anglo-Saxons and Vikings

· Ancient Greece (Y5)/Achievement Award (Y6)

· Rivers (Y5)/ End of Year Production (Y6)

These topics are not only exciting but also offer a chance for students to explore the world around them in depth. As part of this exploration, students will have the chance to visit Bristol to find out about the city’s historic involvement with the Slave Trade, as well as walk locally, exploring the river Frome and its surroundings. In addition, there will be an end of year celebratory trip to Puxton Park!

In Year 5, the students can look forward to Bikeability, a K’Nex Engineering Workshop and a week of swimming lessons. Students in Year 5 also have the opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities around school, such as Reading Ambassadors, Worship team and Play Leaders.

Highlights for Year 6 this year will be the Autumn Bake-Off, Charity Presentations, a trip to Life Skills in Bristol and a week-long camp to The Manor. It’s set to be an unforgettable adventure, with outdoor activities, team-building challenges, and plenty of opportunities for personal growth. Following this, Year 6 will embark on a theatrical production which promises to discover and nurture talent and courage as every student gets involved in acting, singing and the technical production of a performance.
